Rubbishing all talk of a rift between himself and Virender Sehwag , India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni  on Friday came out with his entire squad, including support staff, for the pre-match press conference in Nottingham ahead of the team’s World T20 opener against Bangladesh, and lashed out at a “false and irresponsible” Indian media.

Dhoni said: “This message is for the people of India and Indian cricket fans from worldwide who care for the whole team. That’s why we are all here.

“As we prepare for the T20 World Cup, we are a unified team. The team spirit is as good as it has ever been, with each individual supporting each other both on and off the field.

“Recent reports in the Indian media of a rift between myself and Sehwag amounts to nothing but false and irresponsible media.

“Our fans and supporters can take confidence from the wonderful unity that continues to exist in the team.

“We thank our fans for this continued support and look forward to entertaining you during this tournament which we go into well-prepared, unified as Team India and confident.

“Thank-you.”

Finished, Dhoni and the entire squad stormed out of the conference, leaving the Indian media miffed.

The media immediately lodged a complaint with the ICC’s  Communications Officer Sami-ul-Hasan, saying that since it is an ICC event it is mandatory for the captain or a team member to address the media ahead of a match.

Hassan agreed, saying ICC rules are certainly in place, but it has no control over how teams conduct their briefing.

I really dont understand what he means by the “Muslim world” , is he referring to the Ummah?? Does he believe in the ummah by any chance? May be he does. Also is there a “Hindu world” , “Christian world” and so on? If not then how did he come up with a “Muslim world”? The ummah is what the terrorists  are harping upon, and by using the words “Muslim world” he is actually playing into their hands. If he really wants to help them , he should be helping individual countries rather than generalizing? Why does he paint the a whole religious community with the same stroke of brush?

A newly-elected BSP MP, who visited a temple after winning Lok Sabha election, on Tuesday faced the ire of Muslim clerics who termed his act as “unislamic”.

But Kadir Rana, the MP from Muzaffarnagar, said he had done nothing against the Islamic law.

Reacting sharply to Rana’s visit, clerics of the leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband said the MP had violated the Shariat Law.

“Rana’s action was against the Shariat Law, which says a Muslim cannot offer prayer to anyone except the Allah,” seminary’s Deputy Chancellor Maulana Abdul Khalik said.

Similar views were expressed by Maulana Mohammad Sufiyan Kasmi, a member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, and Mufti Mohammad Arif and Mufti Zulfikar, both local clerics.

Rana, during a victory procession after the Lok Sabha poll results were out on May 16, had visited a temple Muzaffarnagar.

Pakistani authorities have freed detained Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the leader of Lashkar-e-Toiba front Jamaat-ud-Dawa from house arrest in his house in eastern Pakistan on Tuesday. The release was ordered by the Lahore High Court.

Saeed had been put under house arrest on Thursday December 11, 1008 following international hue and cry over the JuD’s involvement in the Mumbai terror attacks of 26 November 2008.

In December 2008, the UN Security Council had listed the group as a front for LeT. Saeed’s home in Johar Town area of Lahore was declared a “sub-jail”.

PTI reports that Saeed’s close aide Col (retired) Nazir Ahmed too was freed along with him nearly six months after they were detained following the Mumbai terror attacks.

A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court freed Saeed and Ahmed after hearing arguments by the JuD chief’s counsel A K Dogar, who claimed the detention of the two men violated Pakistan’s constitution and laws.

The three-judge bench, hearing the case, said it will give a detailed order later.

Dogar, who addressed the bench for about 45 minutes, said the UN Security Council had only sought a freeze on the JuD’s assets and a travel ban on its leaders and the world body had not demanded the arrest of JuD leaders.

He claimed it was not binding under Pakistani laws to implement UN Security Council resolutions.

This is not the first time Hafiz Saeed has been under house arrest or released therefrom. He was first placed under house arrest in August 2006 but later Lahore High Court had ordered his release.

Authorities rearrested him hours after that, only to set him free again a few weeks later.

In January 2009, Pakistani authorities had extended by two months the detention of Hafiz Mohammed Saeed and seven other activists of the Jamaat-ud-Dawa.

The Mumbai terror strikes had left over 170 people dead and horrified the world.

The Jamaat leaders have been detained under the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance, which allows a person to be held for up to 90 days.

The then Pakistani Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar had told reporters that Saeed and other militant leaders detained by Pakistani authorities could not be tried in the absence of evidence against them.

The Punjab government spokesman had also said 10 schools and 18 dispensaries run by the Jamaat in the province had been taken over by authorities. Seven Jamaat publications had been banned and all copies had been confiscated.

Though Pakistani authorities had detained Jamaat leaders, sealed the group’s offices across the country and frozen its bank accounts, local media reports had described the measures as “half-hearted”.

The reports had said Saeed, also the leader of the LeT, had been allowed to leave his home and that the Jamaat’s sprawling headquarters at Muridke near Lahore was still fully operational.

Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi believes that the United States and Israel are creating sharp differences between India and Pakistan, so that the latter could not target its ‘Muslim bomb’ against the West.

“The Pakistanis are told that their enemy is the Hindu, not the Jew or Christian, and therefore their bomb should be directed towards them, the Pakistanis’ immediate enemy, and not anyone else,” he wrote in The Washington Times.

Similarly, the Indians are led to believe their real enemy is Pakistan and that the Pakistani bomb was directed toward them rather than the Israelis or Americans, Gadhafi said in an opinion piece published last week.

“This policy aims to preoccupy Pakistan with India and India with Pakistan. Perhaps this is why America has not been willing to contribute to solving the Kashmiri problem, whereas the Israelis will try to always keep it flammable,” he said.

Gadhafi pointed out that if Islamic extremists affiliated to al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden took over the government in Pakistan, “the key to the nuclear bomb would be in their hands. This has created the Pakistani quagmire for the Americans and Israelis.”

To address this potentially dangerous situation, they have attempted to further drive a wedge of hostility between Pakistan and neighbouring India,” Gadhafi said. “Truly, the Pakistani nuclear bomb is a Muslim bomb,” he wrote in his piece.

“On the other hand, if political parties such as the Pakistan People’s Party or even the army ruled, things would be relatively safe because they presumably constitute responsible institutions. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that they can form sustainable governments,” he said.

Observing that there can be no Pakistan without Islam, as Islam was the basis for its separation from India, he said, “Islam for the Pakistanis is not a question of faith only but also a question of identity.”

Pakistan, he argued, is witnessing dramatic changes because of its complex demographic structure. Socially, it is composed of various ethnicities and fierce tribes — bordering Afghanistan — that have no loyalty to either Pakistan or to Afghanistan, Gadhafi observed

“Pakistan faces challenges even within its region. It is threatened by the Shiaite Muslim state of Iran and the Hindu India. This is the reason behind the formation of violent Muslim groups affiliated with the fierce tribes in Afghanistan as well as with the al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden,” he said.

Having an army control the dissent is similar to the situation in Sri Lanka. They might have quelled the military resistance by the LTTE, but to be certain that armed resistance does not raise its head again, Sri Lanka has to begin an inclusive political solution. It has to make sure that the Tamils are not treated as second class citizens. Else it wont be long before another Prabhakaran takes up the gun against the government.

SRINAGAR: Providing sleeping facilities might be seen as good management practice at your average, round-the-clock call centre, but in Indian administered Kashmir it has the advantage of preventing workers getting shot.

Opened in 2004, Access Infrastructure was born of a period of relative peace in a region where at least 47,000 people have been killed since an armed insurgency against Indian rule began 20 years ago.

Its presence and the subsequent arrival of other IT software and service companies is being seen as evidence of a mini-boom in Indian administered Kashmir, which has been a byword for economic stagnation and high unemployment.

But since India and Pakistan, who have fought two wars over divided Indian administered Kashmir, launched a peace process in 2004, there has been a marked reduction in the once almost daily bombings, shootings and militant gunfights with the army.

‘The reduction in violence boosted investment in Indian administered Kashmir and then we came in offering secondary services,’ said Irfan Ansari, the chief executive officer of Access Infrastructure, which specialises in telecoms billing.

Nevertheless, Indian administered Kashmir’s summer capital of Srinagar remains a volatile and sometimes extremely dangerous city – which accounts for the beds in the office.

‘We have arrangements for employees to sleep over in case of curfews and other disturbances,’ said Access executive Khalid Abbas.

Faisal Masood, assistant manager at Access, has about 300 people working in six shifts to serve clients of one of Indian administered Kashmir’s largest mobile phone networks.

‘We are hoping to add to that number soon, despite the recession,’ he said.

‘Earlier, we had no avenues for work. Teaching was the only career option for us women, followed by marriage,’ said Zubaidah Bhat, a 25-year-old trainer at Access.

‘Now I have a way to concentrate on a career. It is truly empowering for women like me,’ she said.

Chitradurga MP Janardana Swamy, who gave up a top Sun Microsystems job in the US to come back to India, wants the country to become so self-reliant that Americans will soon be coming here for a living

Walking to school from Kallihatti, a remote village in the sun-scorched district of Chitradurga, Janardana Swamy dreamed of impossible things.

His father, a school teacher, walked by his side, telling him inspiring stories. Neither had imagined the dimunitive boy would head a two-billion-dollar business one da

Janardana Swamy grew up as a bright student, and went on to study engineering. He did his master’s at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.

He was recognised as a brilliant worker, and soon after he started working, rose to the position of chief engineer at Sun Micro Systems in the US. But the fairytale didn’t end there.

Earlier this year, he put in his papers and returned to India. He contested elections from Chitradurga and won, much to the surprise of politicians who had written off his chances.

“I was the only son,” recalled Janaradana Swamy. “My father took a transfer when I joined a school in a neighbouring village for the 5th standard, just so that he could walk with me to school.”

His father then became his “friend, guide and philosopher.”

The greatest moment in his professional life was when a circuit design process was patented in his name.

Millions of motherboards for Sun Microsystems were designed under him before he left the company and it was taken over by Oracle.

“When I was in the US, I kept thinking about India,” he said. “The question haunting me was, can’t we make India an America?”

When he met his idol and Infosys mentor N R Narayanamurthy, his perception of his destiny changed.

“Murthy said to me that he was growing old and young people like me should take up the cause and join parliament,” he said.

At 41, Janardana Swamy is all enthusiasm about getting his first glimpse of parliament.

The techie-turned-politician has support among his classmates.

Sachidanada Kini, who studied with him, has posted on his blog, “I did my engineering with Janardana Swamy and have observed him for more than two decades. He has come up the hard way, with effort and determination. Every classmate and colleague of his would vouch for his character, honesty and commitment to his motherland.”

Candidates like him, Kini says, are rare, almost non-existent.

“He used to ride to Davangere on my bicycle for many years. He lived in a hostel room, raised money to build hostels for poor students, and has always been an active volunteer both in India and in the US,” said Jainendra, who studied engineering with him.

Janardana Swamy’s political task is cut out. “I want to bring change to my home district,” he said. The district is low on development even though S Nijalingappa, the longest-serving chief minister of Karnataka, hailed from here.

“Drinking water is the main problem,” said Swamy.  I will try to build a reservoir for each village so that we can harvest rainwater.”

Many see echoes of the Swades story in Janardana Swamy. The hero of that film gives up a lucrative job to return to India and bring drinking water to his people.

The new MP hopes he can make Chitradurga a Bangalore by kickstarting economic activities. “We are going to have a branch of Indian Institute of Science at Chitradurga, and it may just be the much-needed trigger for development,” he said.

Tourism is another area he is optimistic about. The district boasts historic sites such as the Chitradurga Fort, celebrated in Kannada literature.

Undettered by Barack Obama’s H1B visa threat and curbs on BPOs, Swamy said, “These developments are a blessing in disguise as they prompt us to be self-reliant. Why should we go to America for our living? Why can’t we make them come here?”

Despite being a BJP leader, Swamy condemns cultural policing and is against. However, he advises the young to be restrained.

“Recklessness is not freedom. We must have social responsibility and that responsibility must be evident in our deeds and actions,” were his wise words. He hoped his win would inspire young people to be active in politics.

The Nine Unknown Men

According to occult lore, the Nine Unknown Men are a two millennia-old secret society founded by the Indian Emperor Asoka 273 BC. The legend of The Nine Unknown Men goes back to the time of the Emperor Asoka, who was the grandson of Chandragupta. Ambitious like his ancestor whose achievements he was anxious to complete, he conquered the region of Kalinga which lay between what is now Calcutta and Madras. The Kalingans resisted and lost 100,000 men in the battle. At the sight of this massacre Asoka was overcome and resolved to follow the path of non-violence.

He converted to Buddhism after the massacre, the Emperor founded the society of the Nine to preserve and develop knowledge that would be dangerous to humanity if it fell into the wrong hands. It is said that the Emperor Asoka once aware of the horrors of war, wished to forbid men ever to put their intelligence to evil uses. During his reign natural science, past and present, was vowed to secrecy. Henceforward, and for the next 2,000 years, all researches, ranging from the structure of matter to the techniques employed in collective psychology, were to be hidden behind the mystical mask of a people commonly believed to be exclusively concerned with ecstasy and supernatural phenomena. Asoka founded the most powerful secret society on earth: that of the Nine Unknown Men.

One can imagine the extraordinary importance of secret knowledge in the hands of nine men benefiting directly from experiments, studies and documents accumulated over a period of more than 2,000 years. What can have been the aim of these men? Not to allow methods of destruction to fall into the hands of unqualified persons and to pursue knowledge which would benefit mankind. Their numbers would be renewed by co-option, so as to preserve the secrecy of techniques handed down from ancient times.

Each of the Nine is supposedly responsible for guarding and improving a single book. These books each deal with a different branch of potentially hazardous knowledge. Traditionally, the books are said to cover the following subjects:

The Nine Books

1. Propaganda and Psychological warfare is a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people. Instead of impartially providing information, propaganda in its most basic sense presents information in order to influence its audience. It is the most dangerous of all sciences, as it is capable of moulding mass opinion. It would enable anyone to govern the whole world.
2. Physiology is the study of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of living organisms. The book of The Nine included instructions on how to perform the “touch of death (death being caused by a reversal of the nerve-impulse).” One account has Judo being a product of material leaked from this book.
3. Microbiology, and, according to more recent speculation, Biotechnology. In some versions of the myth, the waters of the Ganges are purified with special microbes designed by the Nine and released into the river at a secret base in the Himalayas. Multitudes of pilgrims, suffering from the most appalling diseases, bathe in them without harming the healthy ones. The sacred waters purify everything. Their strange properties have been attributed to the fact that they contain bacteriophages. But why should these not be formed in the Bramaputra, the Amazon or the Seine?
4. Alchemy, including the transmutation of metals. In India, there is a persistent rumor that during times of drought or other natural disasters temples and religious organizations receive large quantities of gold from an unknown source. The mystery is further deepened with the fact that the sheer quantity of gold throughout the country in temples and with kings cannot be properly accounted for, seeing that India has few gold mines.
5. Communication, including communication with extraterrestrials.
6. Gravitation. Book 6 The Vaiminaka sastra is said to contain the instructions necessary to build a Vimana, sometimes referred to as the “ancient UFOs of India.”
7. Cosmology, the capacity to travel at enormous speeds through spacetime fabric, and time-travel; including intra- and inter-universal trips.
8. Light, the capacity to increase and decrease the speed of light, to use it as a weapon by concentrating it in a certain direction etc.
9. Sociology, including rules concerning the evolution of societies and how to predict their downfall.

Suspected Members

Numerous figures who straddled the line between occultism and science fiction writing, most prominently (and apparently first) Louis Jacolliot, Talbot Mundy, and later Louis Pauwels and Jacques Bergier in their Morning of the Magicians, propagated the story of the Nine claiming that the society occasionally revealed itself to wise outsiders such as Pope Sylvester II who was said to have received, among other things, training in supernatural powers and a robotic talking head from the group. In more recent times, according to this circle, the Nine assisted humanity by revealing the secret of the Cholera vaccine.

Among conspiracy theorists the Nine Unknown is often cited as one of the oldest and most powerful secret societies in the world. Unusually for the conspiracy subculture, the image of the group is largely though not entirely benign. Theosophists also believe the Nine to be a real organization that is working for the good of the world.

Some modern Indian scientists such as Jagdish Chandra Bose, a pioneer in Radio and Microwave Optics and Vikram Sarabhai, the man behind the Indian space and missile defense programs, were said to believe in or even to be members of the Nine although documentation on this issue is predictably scant. Believers in the Nine also point to the mysterious Delhi iron pillar, which is said to have been constructed at a time before the technology.

Indian scientists are occasionally rumored to be members of the Nine Unknown Men, and from time to time, if a Westerner should visit India and then do something astounding, he is considered to have had their help (as was the case with Pope Sylvester II, and also Alexandre Emile John Yersin, who knew Louis Pasteur and Pierre Paul Emile Roux, who respectively created vaccines for Rabbies and Dyphtheria).

Pope Sylvester II

There is an extraordinary case of one of the most mysterious figures in Western history: the Pope Sylvester II, known also by the name of Gerbert d’Aurillac. Born in the Auvergne in 920 (d. 1003) Gerbert was a Benedictine monk, professor at the University of Rheims, Archbishop of Ravenna and Pope by the grace of Ortho III. He is supposed to have spent some time in Spain, after which a mysterious voyage brought him to India where he is reputed to have aquired various kinds of skills which stupified his entourage. For example, he possessed in his palace a bronze head which answered YES or NO to questions put to it on politics or the general position of Christianity. According to Sylvester II this was a perfectly simple operation corresponding to a two-figure calculation, and was performed by an automaton similar to our modern binary machines. This “magic” head was destroyed when Sylvester died, and all the information it imparted carefully concealed. No doubt an authorized research worker would come across some interesting things in the Vatican Library. In the cybernetics journal, “Computers and Automation” of October 1954, the following comment appeared: “We must suppose that he (Sylvester) was possessed of extraordinary knowledge and the most remarkable mechanical skill and inventiveness. This speaking head must have been fashioned ‘under a certain conjunction of stars occring at the exact moment when all the planets were starting on their courses.’ Neither the past, nor the present nor the future entered into it, since this invention apparently far exceeded in its scope its rival, the perverse “mirror on the wall” of the Queen, the precursor of our modern electronic brain. Naturally it was widely asserted that Gerbert was only able to produce such a machine head because he was in league with the Devil and had sworn eternal allegiance to him.” Had other Europeans any contact with the society of the Nine Unknown Men?

Jacolliot

It was not until the nineteenth century that this mystery was referred to again in the works of the French writer Jacolliot. Jacolliot was French Consul at Calcutta under the Second Empire. He wrote some quite important prophetic works, comparable, if not superior to those of Jules Verne. He also left several books dealing with the great secrets of the human race. A great many occult writers, prophets and miracle-workers have borrowed from his writings which, completely neglected in France, are well known in Russia. Jacolliot states catagorically that the Soceity of Nine did actually exist. And, to make it all the more intriguing, he refers in the this connection to certain techniques, unimaginable in 1860, such as, for example, the liberation of energy, sterilization by radiation and psychological warfare.

Yersin

Yersin, one of Pasteur and de Roux’s closest collaborators, was entrusted, it seems, with certain biological secrets when he visited Madras in 1890, and following the instructions he received was able to prepare a serum against cholera and the plague. The Nine came to the rescue of the civilization from these deadly diseases which they knew if not kiboshed would bring the human race to extinction.

Food for Thought

Avoiding all forms of religious, social or political agitations, deliberately and perfectly concealed from the public eye, the Nine were the incarnation of the ideal man of science, serenely aloof, but conscious of his moral obligations. Having the power to mold the destiny of the human race, but refraining from its exercise, this secret society is the finest tribute imaginable to freedom of the most exalted kind. Looking down from the watch-tower of their hidden glory, these Nine Unknown Men watched civilizations being born, destroyed and re-born again, tolerant rather than indifferent, and ready to come to the rescue — but always observing that rule of silence that is the mark of human greatness. Myth or reality? A magnificent myth, in any case, and one that has issued from the depths of time — a harbinger, maybe, of the future?

It has been agreed upon that Akbar was far more humane in his dealings with hindus, than the other Mughal rulers and other Islamic rulers in India. But when you read through the article you would be left wondering…. If this his how a “just” and “good” ruler treated hindus, what would be the state of affairs when the barbaric ones like Aurangzeb, were at the helm.

A detailed account is left by Humayun’s servant Jauhar and is quoted by Smith (p.20), which says, ” .. (Humayun) had little concerns for his brother’s sufferings .. One of the men was sitting on Kamran’s knees. He was pulled out of the tent and a lancet was thrust into his eyes .. Some lemon juice and salt was put into his eyes .. After sometime he was put on horseback.” One can imagine the cruelty and torture that Humayun was capable of inflicting on others when he subjected to his own brother to such atrocities. Humayun was also a slave to opium habit, engaged in excessive alcohol consumption and a lecherous degenarate when it came to women (Shelat, p.27). He is also known to have married a 14 year old Hamida Begum by force.

Akbar’s (Immoral) Character and Nature
Akbar possessed a inordinate lust for women, just like his ancestors and predecessors. One of Akbar’s motives during his wars of aggression against various rulers was to appropriate their women, daughters and sisters. The Rajput women of Chittor prefered “Jauhar” (immolation) than to be captured and disrespectfully treated as servants and prostitutes in Akbar’s harem.

Sodomy was a precious service of Akbar’s own family. Babur, Akbar’s grandfather, has given a lengthy description of this sodomic infatuation for a male sweetheart. Humayun was no different. Though perhaps Akbar did not engage in sodomy, he “allowed” it to be practiced by his servants, courtiers and sycophats. Abul Fazal in Ain-e-Akbari provides accounts of some such acts which are too disgusting to even mention. Such perverse gratification was prevelant during the Moghal rule, and in Akbar’s times.

Akbar’s Barbarites
Vincent Smith (p.50) says that in a privately executing Kamran’s son [namely, Akbar's own cousin] at Gwalior in 1565, “.. Akbar set an evil example, initiated on a large scale by his descendents Shahjahan and Aurangzeb.” This does not cause a serious alarm knowing the percious heritage of duplicity and trechery handed down to Akbar by his ancestors. Generations of martial races (Rajputs) were cut off by his (Akbar) sword … he was long ranked with Shahbuddin and Alla (Allauddin) and other instruments of destruction, and with every just claim; and like these he constructed a Mumbar (a pulpit for islamic preachers) for the Koran from the altar of Eklingji (the deity of the Rajput warriors).” (Todd, p.259) Not only that he forcibly annihilated innumerable humans, he also had no respect for temples and deities and willingly indulged in destruction of such places of worship.

“marched straight into Delhi, which opened its gates to Akbar, who made his entry in state. Agra was also passed into his possession. In accordance with the ghastly custom of the times, a tower was built with the heads of the slain. Immense treasures were taken with the family of Hemu whose aged father was executed.” This “tower of heads” tradition and ceremony was religuously preserved by the “magnanimous” Akbar.

“.. Akbar exasperated by the obstinate resistance offered to his arms, treated the town and garrison with merciless severity. The 8000 strong Rajput garrison having been zealously helped during the seige by 40,000 peasants, the emperor ordered a general massacre which resulted in the death of of 30,000 (even thought the struggle was over). Many were made prisoners.”

Akbar’s cruelty towards the Hindu women kidnapped and shut up in his harem were stagerring and his much vaunted marraiges said to have been contracted for communal integration and harmony were nothing but outrageous kidnappings brought about with the force of arms. This is apparent from Akbar’s marriage to Raja Bharmal’s daughter that occured at Deosa “when people Deosa and other places on Akbar’s route fled away on his approach.” (Shrivastava, pp.63). Why would the people flee in terror if at all Akbar was “visiting” Raja Bharmal and that the marraige was congenial and in consent with the bride’s party? Far from abolishing the practice of Sati, Akbar invited the Jesuit priests to watch the “considerble fun” and supporting it by his weighty judgement and explicit approbation. Akbar’s Fanaticism
Akbar was born a muslim, lived like a muslim and died as a muslim; that too a very fanatic one. Histories have dubbed him as a true believer who accomplished a synthesis of the best principles of all religions. The infamous Jiziya tax, which is special tax exaction from the Hindus, was never abolished by Akbar. Time and time again different people had approached seeking exemption from Jiziya. Everytime the exemption was ostensibly issued, but never was actually implemented. Throughout Akbar’s reign, temples used to razed to the ground or misappropriated as mosques and cows were slaughtered in them, as happened in the battle at Nagarkot. No symbol of Hindu origin and design was spared from the iconoclastic wrath of Akbar.

Akbar had filled both his hands with 50 gold coins when Badayuni expressed his strong desire to take part in a “holy war” (massacring Hindus) and “dye these black moustachois and beard in (hindu) blood through loyalty to Your Majesty’s person” (sic). Akbar far from dispproving of Badayuni’s despicable desire, gladly presented him with a decent premium.

Monserrate, a contemporary of Akbar, writes (p.27), “the religious zeal of the Musalmans has destroyed all the idol temples which used to be numerous. In place of Hindu temples, countless tombs and little shrines of wicked and worthless Musalmans have been erected in which these men are worshipped with vain superstition as though they were saints.” Not only did the muslims destroy the idols, but usurped the existing temples and converted them into tombs of insignificant people.
